The Gunnison memorial was established in 1997 by Boyd Gunnison, in memory of his brother Cal, both founding members of our club. This Soling only race is held in January on the first open day, usually a Wednesday. Before the race we remember members who have passed the previous year.
The race format is one or two groups sailing 5 or 6 races. If there are 2 groups the top 4 move on, if there is one group, the top 8 move on. The 8 remaining boats engage in match races, with the winner moves to the next bracket to face the winner of another bracket. The top five racers receive awards and the winner gets to run the race the next year.

Founders Race
The Founders Cup is run every December to remember the founders of what is now called the Suncoast Model Sailing Club. The race is for all members sailing Solings. The format is regular fleet racing and the boat with the fewest points wins. Depending on the number of boats, we may divide into two fleets, with the winners of each fleet racing in more races. We will sail as many races as we can fit in in the morning. The winner of the Founders race, runs next years Founders race.

Fleet Championship
The Fleet Championship for Solings is held the last weekend in March and is considered the end of season race. This is an elimination race. Racers get 1 point for finishing last in a race. Racers with 2 points are eliminated from racing. Depending on the number of boats, the boats may be divided into two fleets. The fleets are joined when enough boats are eliminated. The winner must run the race the next year.
